This article applies to the following cameras
C-12
C-08
To instigate a recording, create a recording configuration. Two types of recordings are supported; continuous for recording all the time and event based for recordings based on a trigger such as a motion alarm.
The configuration overview table is accessible via Recording > Recording Configuration and provides an overview of the key characteristics of each configuration and controls to edit and delete them.
Create a Recording Configuration
To create a recording configuration via the Camera Web Interface, go to Recording > Recording Configuration, and select + Create Recording button located in the top right-hand corner.
The following recording settings can be selected and configured.
Name
Set an easily identifiable recording configuration name. This is a mandatory field.
Type
Choose the type of recording to create; either record the stream continuously or only when it is triggered by an event.
Consider the impact on storage requirements and the storage capacity of the microSD Card.
The table below provides some guidance on the amount of potential storage space required at particular bit rates.
* Estimation only, assuming a constant bit rate and a stable level of motion in the scene. Bit Rate will vary depending on several factors, including Bit Rate control method: Constant (+/- 10%) or Fixed Quality (dependent on Quality level, Max Bit Rate level and the amount of activity and detail in the scene). Bit rate is also influenced by resolution and frame rate. If StreamLite compression is applied to the stream this will significantly impact the size of the stream being transmitted and stored. The reduction achieved will be dependent on the level and type of compression applied.
Source
Select the Media Profile you want to record.
Priority
Recording configurations can be given a priority level to ensure preference is given to the most important recording configuration. Set the priority level of the recording where 1 is the most important and 2 is the least.
Max Retention
Set the maximum number of days you want the camera to retain recorded footage on the SD card. Assuming there is sufficient space, once this limit is reached, the earliest recording will be overwritten.
The available range to select from is 0-365 days.
If the Maximum Retention period is set to 0 days, the camera will carry on recording until the storage is full.
Mode
Set the status of the recording. ‘Active’ will initiate the configuration to record. ‘Idle’ will place the recording on hold, which is useful if you want to stop a recording for a period of time, but plan to initiate it again in the future.
If Disk Full
When the storage is full, select how you want the camera to behave from the two options available.
1. Do not Record will stop the recording and alert you in the following ways:
- The SD card recording message displayed in the top bar of the Camera Web Interface will switch to off.
- An alert notification will be shown in the notification bar at the bottom of the Camera Web Interface.
- A notification will also be sent to your VMS (recording job status changed to idle).
- The Status LED on the camera will turn and remain solid red.
2. Purge Old Files instructs the camera to carry on recording and overwrite the oldest footage first.
Additional options for Event based Recording:
When selecting Event as the recording type the additional options below will also need to be configured.
Triggers
Select the events that will trigger the recording. There are a number of events to choose from, for a full list and explanation of them see 5.5.1.2.1 Triggers in the C-Series Installation & User Guide . It is possible to select more than one event to trigger the recording. This recording configuration will also be displayed as an event in the Events summary table; Events > Alarm Rules.
Pre – Record
Set the amount of time prior to the event occurring (maximum 10 seconds) that you want to pre-record to capture the lead-up to the event. This is particularly useful for events triggered by motion.
Record Duration
Set the total amount of time you want to record an event for after the trigger (not including pre-record).
Save
Click Save Profile to save your configuration.
